In the middle of the summer in the armpit of Central California lies a place where while one is driving tries to avoid stopping at , situated between L.A. and FresNO lies Bakersfield . the place may not seem like much and you would expect some Hee Haa country music coming from here but believe it or not the music scene extends beyond Buck Owens and Korn and there is a varied of music here from the mainstream to country , pop , metal , emo punk , grind/power violence , goth , punk , hardcore , straight edge and just pure shit music = Passive Resistance (just kinda joking there , Nah not really) . I know the punk and metal scene has been here for a while here but i didn't move here until 1992 so i'm just gonna go with what i remember from there . When i moved here the only place i found that played punk music was at a little place on the corner of 20th and M St. called Bam Bams (later called the Zoo and i don't know what other names it went by) ran by John Bentley , a crazy place and a scary place . The most famous is Jerry's Pizza , then there is the infamous Munoz Gym where the bands would literally play in a boxing ring which was pretty much ran by Ronald who also runs Going Underground Records here and now in L.A. , and Going Underground Record label also he booked shows at Babylon . There was the Marqee , Montgomery World Plaza , Chaos Coffee , The Killer Klam and a bunch of other places i don't remember . There are many band that didn't really ever make it out of here but damn did they leave a mark or just disappeared from memory .
MTV tried to come and record the punk show going on at Jerry's Pizza ( when they were doing that reality bullshit program) well things didn't go the way they wanted . The band getting ready to play ( The Riot Kids ) told everyone that if MTV came downstairs to film for everyone to sit down and the band was not gonna play until they left . While outside in the alley someone asked the MTV crew if they wanted to see a Bakersfield street fight and a nasty fight did happen while MTV was trying to get away and someone tried to steal their camera and equipment .
this is when they (The Adicts) finally played , it was booked 3 times but because of visa's or something it got cancelled twice before this .
The Heretics , Family , Grossman , Ghost Nation , Litterbox , Ghetto Cracker , Misbliss , Gelgod , Urban Scum , The Kill , The Dabblers , Four More Feet , The Riot Kids , J.F.U.K. ,The Black Jerks , Death Valley Driver and so many more . Currently the are a lot of bands some good and some bad , I'm not gonna go on and on about this band and that band , I'm just post some video's and the few recordings i have of local bands . I don't really keep up with what bands are still around , the few i know of are The Withdrawals , The 08 Orchestra , Aggravated Friction , The Noktornals , Tanked and The Iron Outlaws (who were the last band to ever record in Buck Owens recording studio before they closed it) .In fact there is now a little music documentary about Bakersfield called Bones Of Brundage produced by the same guy who gave us Floradora Nate Berg (musician for Sharon Tate , promoter , and now producer) Bones Of Brundage trailer Well here are a few video's of some local bands and of a few some gigs here and i am gonna start with The Iron Outlaws great guys and a great band The Iron Outlaws
